Early Work

Spacer

From the vantage point of November 2009 I feel it is best to restrict myself to the subject matter of this particular period of the late sixties and early seventies. The work is my reaction to some of the events of the "troubles" as they appeared in the press at that time. These events included people being tarred and feathered, people being forced from their homes, people who had relatives murdered, soldiers who provided protection and others who offered a similar service. One of the earliest images that evoked a response was the stoning of the Civil Rights March at Burntollet. The business of myself as the artist reacting to current political events was a recurring one over the next thirty years culminating with my exhibition "The Summer of Ninety eight".
